As the final few weeks of this semester wind down, I’ve been reflecting on how far I’ve come on this journey as a nontraditional college student. The hard work, late nights, and countless hours of studying are paying off in a big way, and I couldn’t wait to share the exciting news…
I landed my dream internship, ya’ll!
I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve accepted a tax intern position with Belfint, Lyons & Shuman (BLS), a highly regarded CPA firm located in Wilmington, Delaware. Starting in early 2025, I’ll be diving headfirst into the world of public accounting, gaining real-world experience in a field that I’ve become incredibly passionate about.
Why This Internship Means So Much
As someone who transitioned from running a small business to pursuing a degree in accounting, this opportunity feels like the perfect next step. When I think back to the days of managing my own business, I remember the frustration of not fully understanding the financial side of things. It’s a big part of what drove me to pursue a career in accounting—I want to help others avoid the same struggles I faced.
This internship with BLS represents more than just a stepping stone in my career. It’s a chance to:
Work alongside seasoned professionals who are just as passionate about accounting as I am.
Build hands-on skills in public accounting that will prepare me for the CPA exam and beyond.
Gain insights into the inner workings of a respected CPA firm, from tax preparation to supporting businesses during tax season.
What’s Next?
The internship will take place during tax season, a time that’s notorious for being one of the busiest in the accounting world. While it’ll undoubtedly be a challenging experience, I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and embrace every learning opportunity that comes my way. I know this role will push me to grow not only as a future CPA but also as a team member and professional.
One aspect I’m particularly excited about is collaborating with talented individuals who share the same drive and commitment to excellence. Learning from mentors at BLS will be an invaluable experience that will shape my skills and knowledge for years to come.

If you’re on the fence about pursuing your goals, let this be your reminder: it’s never too late to chase your dreams. Whether you’re switching careers, going back to school after years away, or balancing a busy family life like me, it’s all possible with determination and a clear vision of where you want to go.
This journey hasn’t been easy, but milestones like this make every challenge worth it. Thank you to my professors, mentors, family, and friends who’ve cheered me on every step of the way.
